In 1975, Master Donkel at the age of 21 attended the Police Academy in Columbia South Carolina and joined the Police Department with the City of Columbia. After 11 months he was recruited by his father Command Sergeant Major Donkel and joined the US Army attending the Military Police School at Fort McClellan AL. During his Military carrier he was stationed at Fort McPherson, Atlanta GA, Fort Shafter HI, Ft Jackson SC and Ft Hood TX. During those times he performed duties as Patrolman, Desk Sergeant, Supervisor, Criminal Investigator and Operations Sergeant at the Brigade level. He was in charge of the SWAT team at Fort Jackson SC before being selected for Language School in CA. He attended Language School at Presidio of Monterey where he learned Spanish and was deployed to Latin America, where he remained for 14 years. He performed Law Enforcement, at various levels and Protective Services throughout Central and South America. He was selected by his commend to attend the Protective Service School in the US and was assigned to US Southern Command in Panama where he was in charge to the Protective Service Team for the SouthCom Commander, a 4-star General, General Maxell Thurman. For over two years, which included the Invasion of Panama known as Operation Just Cause he and his team was charged with protecting the General and other dignitaries, foreign and domestic. He and his team held the Honor of being the first Military Policemen to perform Protective Services in combat. During the Invasion of Panama, he and his team were awarded medals for valor for saving the lives of the US Embassy, Charge of Affairs and the two Vice Presidents of Panama. He retired in Latin America and worked as a Security Consultant for multiple International Firms applying his skills in Security and Law Enforcement including consulting CEO’s and their families in Mexico and Columbia on Anti Kidnaping Techniques. He returned to the US and settled in Hickory NC area and attended the Law Enforcement Course at CVCC. Master Donkel began his journey in Martial Arts with us in September of 2005. He trained at both Dojos in Hickory and Claremont 4 days a week until he was promoted to 1st Dan on 01/16/2009. He Currently holds the rank of 4th Dan obtaining the tile of Master.
