A Note About Testing - Parents, testing is an important event for your child and is also a special ceremony that marks a great achievement in your child's martial arts training. We ask that your child be prepared by being on time and be dressed in their black gi pants and black gi top, no T-shirts, please. Also, please understand that we need you or a responsible adult to be present for this ceremony. If you have any questions or concerns, please see Sensei or any of the blackbelts or staff.
Gear for Sale - Team MVKC has used gear for sale in the Dojo. If you are interested in purchasing any of this gear for yourself or your child, please see the staff.
Belt Testing Fee- All testing fees are due PRIOR to testing. Advanced White and Gold Belts are $30, Orange and Blue Belts are $35, and Green and Brown Belts are $40. You can see Emily or Kathy in the dojo office before testing to take care of these fees. Please have either a check or cash, as we cannon accept debit or credit cards. Thank you!
Tuition Changes- In keeping competitive with other dojos both locally and statewide, beginning in September monthly tuition will increase to $79.00 a month beginning January 1st. Several dojo’s in the area charge $89-$150 a month so we are still well below others in our area. Please remember that monthly tuition is due the 1st of each month.
Attention Parents- All students 10 years and under are required to wear headgear with a face mask. Also, all gear must be labeled (gear, bags, belts, uniforms, etc.) with a Sharpie. All boys must wear protective cups.
Gift Certificates- All current students will receive a $25.00 gift card for dojo gear and apparel for any new students referred to Mt. View Karate Centers. Pick up a few of the “2 Free Classes” coupons that are on the table in front of the dojo.
New Students- It is mandatory to purchase sparring gear prior to testing for your gold belt. You can order all equipment in the Dojo Office.
Bring a Buddy to Karate Day - The first Monday of each month at the Foothills Dojo (first Tuesday for SPA), will be "Bring a Buddy to Karate" Day! Bring a friend along to try out class and get one class credit!
Dojo T-Shirts - We have new black Dojo T-Shirts for sale in the Dojo Office. If you wish to wear a T-Shirt to class on Wednesdays or Thursdays, starting December 1, this is the shirt that you must wear. Prices are $14 for one, $25 for two and $35 for three. Students may also still wear the old black MVKC T-shirts as well.
Promotion Testing - Mandatory classes are just a minimum for gold belt and up. Students test when their name is on the promotion list. The most important aspects for being eligible to test are discipline, respect, attitude, skill and effort. Students and/or parents that ask to test are showing disrespect to the instructors and will not be allowed to test. You will test when the instructors think you are ready. Black belt should take from 4 to 7 years to achieve. Testing is held the first Friday of each month at the Foothills Dojo.
Private Lessons are Available - If you are interested in getting some extra help on katas, self-defenses, sparring or for competitions, contact any instructing black belt. Class criteria privates count for two class credits per one hour class.
Student Reminders & Handbook Omissions
Never wear your obi outside of class. Students are to remove their belts before exiting the dojo and drape them around their necks or put in gear bags. Black Belts can wear their obi's outside of the Dojo and on testing nights.
Students arriving late to class must enter the dojo, bow, put gear bag in proper spot, then kneel down in seiza on the proper matt until called to join class by the instructor.
Mouthpieces & Gear- Parents please be sure your child has their mouthpiece for every class. They also need to be reboiled every 6 months to allow for growth and cleanliness. Also, please make sure your child's name is labeled on their gear with a black or silver sharpie.
Foothills Policy
It has been brought to our attention by the Foothills staff that their policy on students attending classes in addition to their assigned class time is to charge a per class fee for the extra classes. This does not affect make-up classes or the Saturday class. Make-up classes should be scheduled through the office or your instructor. We apologize for the oversight on our part.
